The purpose of combining two soda fountains into one? Economy? Advertising?

Two ice dispensers. Is it socially acceptable to use a convenience-store soda fountain at the same time as someone else? Does design set social norms? Or are the two dispensers there for convenience’s sake?

Interesting: Some graphic designer made the drink inside the super-cup brown. A subtle hint towards cola? Or mundane recognition that most fountain drinks are brown?
